An Open Letter to Men

To the men in my life:

Man in dimly lit window with hands on neck in distress.

I love you. Truly, I love you for always doing your best. I appreciate you for always striving for better. And, I love and admire your fortitude. I love that even when the pressures of life get to you, you somehow muster up the strength to keep going. I admire you for the selfless acts you carry out.  In fact, the provisions you make for those you love and the sacrifices you endure for those very same people.

Here is What You Don’t Know…

I watch you intently. In fact, I see you. Even when you think I don’t take notice. I see the toll that life has taken. From a distance, I see the fatigue.  I observe the effects that your past and present have taken on you. Ultimately, I know that you are proud. I know that you believe you are unshakeable.  And, I know that you believe that no matter what life has thrown at you, you can take it.  But the truth is, I see you struggling. We all do. I know you and I love you enough to tell you; you need help. You should see a therapist who specializes in therapy for men in Detroit, MI.

Do You Understand How Important it Focus on Men’s Mental Health?

Did you know that stress-related illnesses are on the rise?  Are you aware that depression and anxiety are the most common stress-induced conditions? Studies have shown that conforming to masculine norms negatively impacts men’s mental health and reduces the frequency of psychological help-seeking. Toxic masculinity is the idea that men should “just deal with” their pain. Plus, social pressure can prevent men from feeling safe and comfortable enough to start therapy.  I know you are hesitant, but in-person and online therapy in Detroit, MI really can be beneficial.

Therapy for men is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, focusing on men’s mental health does not make you “less of a man”.  Nor does it make you weak.  Therapy for men in Detroit, MI affords you a safe and supportive setting to address and work on those thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that trouble you.  If the thought of in-person therapy is unsettling,  “Online therapy in Michigan has actually helped a lot of people who would find going into an office to talk about their issues too vulnerable,”. “Tele-therapy means you can be in your own space and there’s some distance which often allows for more honesty and vulnerability.  Virtual therapy or telehealth can be a great solution to your reluctance.
